0x800a0007 Windows Update Error Code

The 0x800a0007 windows update error can be generated by a number of various issues. The error itself can be attributed to the Microsoft Updater service not being able to see which updates your computer requires.

To begin with we need to look at the firewall software, its a good idea to disable this, and try to run the updates again, if this works then you will need to setup a rule to allow Microsoft Updates. Make sure you switch your Firewall back on as soon as you have tested this.

  • A network restriction in place preventing updates or a local or group policy is in place preventing this.
  • Many companies my own included do not allow Windows update patches to be installed by Microsoft update.
  • Any required patches are tested in case of any issues and then deployed by using third party software such as Patchlink or Altiris.
  • Make sure the date and time and time zone on your computer are accurate, if the date and time is wrong by more than a few minutes then 0x800a0007 is a known error.
  • Is SSL enabled ? to enable it, from Internet Explorer select Tools, Internet Options,  Advanced and tick Use SSL 2.0 and Use SSL 3.0

Which Language is your Windows ?

Make sure the Language settings are set to English. This can be changed from Start Menu, Control Panel, Regional and Language Options.

Make sure you can access other websites, to make sure its not the actual web connection or a general pc issue.

And lastly do you have access to install Microsoft updates ? this would normally give a user access error, but this can have a knock on effect.

One point worth noting, make sure your computers time zone is the same as your ISP’s, I travel frequently and used to get the 0x800a0007 windows update error when in other countries due to the time difference.
