It’s better to get the maximum for future expansion as it’s annoying to have to keep swapping the cables around.

I have a total of 6 and by the time I have keyboard, external hard drive , scanner , external DVD writer plugged in this only leaves me with one, and I was thinking of getting a printer , so that’s all my ports gone, so better to have more than you need for now.

Other than that options are really limited, a docking station may be the answer , they can be quite expensive, but some of the larger ones can take full size PCI cards.
