Analyzing income is perhaps
one of the best ways to see how a website is performing,
monitoring income and measuring the amount of orders or clicks,
vs. earnings.
If the click through to
sale percentage is the same something is going right, even if it
says otherwise in some of your other statistics.
(changing around ad
types, settings or placements will probably change this though,
so ad settings needs to remain the same for at least a week to
start building a picture)

give you the true picture.
You only have to start using a handful of methods to realize
that just about all statistics will give differing results.
When it
comes to monitoring a website, it’s pretty rare to get something
for nothing, many stat services do charge, or they may take a
back link from your website, some even add advertising to your
site, so ensure you are clear about this beforehand as you may
need to add the stat code to your website, and this can be very
time consuming if it needs to be done to every page, and even
more so if you need to remove it after.

There is however a
number of very good free services, such as Google Analytics, SBI
(although you need your website to be hosted by them) and of
course the other types of monitoring that are not integrated
into your website such as.
Pages in search engines
– site:domain name, this should increase as you create more
pages.
Pages in total on the web – just type in “http://www.name of
website” using with and without http:// this will give you an
idea of how many sites have your website listed on their site,
again this should increase as your site becomes more well known.
Alexa which has its own
ranking system, which depends on people using its toolbar to
monitor browsing habits, you just need to visit their website
and type in your website.
There are of course lots
of other smaller stat services around; many of them offer a free
cut down service, which generally is ok for the average web
master, or a full blown in-depth package, usually for a monthly
fee.
