BACKING UP EMAIL , BEING
PREPARED IF THE WORST HAPPENS
Backing up email
from outlook express. Like any kind of e-mail , today it can be
the lifeblood of your business or your social life, losing one
or two emails can be very frustrating.
Imagine if you lost
the lot, all of your email correspondence lost.
It could be literally
years or information, how would you deal with this ? Luckily you
will never have to deal with this as long as you backup your
email, backing up email does not take very long. To begin with
there are two possible ways of backing up email from Outlook
Express , the first way is a little more complicated, but I
would recommend this way as it offers much more resilient
backup.
The first backup method
To use the first method you will need to have full blown outlook
installed, not just outlook express, if you do not use alternate
method below.
Note this method can also be used to migrate outlook express to
outlook
Firstly go to the
start menu and select control panel from here you should
see the mail icon , double click this , you should arrive
at the following screen, if not you might have to select
profiles.
Select add and type
the name of your new profile
now you will be asked
to create an account ,
Cancel this you will
then receive a message asking if you want to create a profile
with no email accounts , click OK
Click ok to get out of the next screen
Now you can launch
Outlook express, from here , go to the file menu and select
export , and then messages.
You will then see the
following
click ok and now select the email profile you created earlier.
It will now ask what
you would like to backup, select all folders .
It should be off and
running, depending how much you've got to backup , it may take a
few minutes .
Once this is done a
the PST or personal folder with all your email in will be
located in
C:Documents and
Settings your-username Local Settings Application Data Microsoft
Outlook
Just substitute
your-username for the actual name that you login to the computer
with.
If you don't login,
you'll be able to find the name of the user in my computer If
ever you need to restore the emails back into outlook express,
just create a outlook profile as above and point the direction
of the personal folder to the one you wish to use.
Once this is done
you'll be able to import this from the file menu of outlook
express.
For the second
method of backing up outlook express emails

Launch outlook
express , right click on Inbox , and select properties

This will then give
you the location of the inbox.
Browse to this location and you will see all of the outlook
express storage folders.
From here you will be able to just copy them to back them up
please note though I do not recommend this way, I always backup
mine using the first method.

Thanks for the backup tool location its made backing up Outlook email a
synch, I can even set it for every 7 days and then it even reminds me.
