Backup Applications – Off the top of your head could you name / list all applications installed on your computer?
List Applications
If you can you either have a very good memory or do not have a great deal installed. If you have had you computer for a while and use it regularly then like me you will probably have a great deal of applications installed, be it utilities, games or just general.
Its easy to remember the ones that you use frequently,
but what about the infrequently used ones, and the system utilities that hardly ever get run ?
Considering I only use my computer for a couple of hours each day I have around 200 applications installed, (this does not include the ones that come with the operating system either).
Its best to actually categorise what you have installed into a couple of sections, this way its easier to see whats actually installed. I break mine into the following categories,
Just make categories based on the types of applications you have installed.
- Utilities
Applications such as the Antivirus, tools, Antispyware, Norton Utilities and any other tools - Games
Really self explanatory, remember to backup your saved game data - General Applications
This is for applications such as spread sheets / databases , word processing , Internet Explorer
Graphics
I work a lot with graphics so I give them their own category. Applications , such as Photoshop, Freehand , Paintshop pro and Quark Express
There is nothing worse than rebuilding your computer and then trying to do something, and being unable to due to a missing application,
So you then have to turn around and install it, before you can continue working, which can be a real pain.
Its much better to make backup applications list of all the apps you have installed and then, re-install them all together, before you begin working.
This way you can also go through your applications list and also decide which applications you really do not need anymore. Once you have rebuilt your computer to a satisfactory stage, why not create an image of it, this way, in future a rebuild / re-image will only take around half an hour, to find out more about images checkout our backup / imagine guide.
