Backup drivers , Windows XP and 2000 are generally very good at picking up new hardware, but what happens when you have to rebuild your computer or worse,
Your computer develops and problem and you don’t have the backup software driver disk or cd for some of the hardware resources such as sound cards or video cards , Even worse maybe a modem or your network card, how do you then get access to the internet to get the driver , it’s catch 22 , you need to get online to get the driver and yet the medium you get online with is not working as you need the backup driver for it. So it’s far better to make a note of the driver names , along with the hardware type so you know exactly what you need before a system rebuild is performed or in case the worst happens.
It’s very easy to do this , just right click on my computer and then select properties and hardware, now choose device manager . From here you will be able to see all of your hardware resources, the main things that you need to look at, are the following To get the actual Model just click on the cross by the side of the Hardware Type , for example you may see ..
Once you have written down the names of any drivers, download them from the internet , usually unless you have some very obscure hardware ,
It should be relatively easy to find what you are looking for. To start with look at your computer manufacturers web site, other than that try www.driverguide.com , you’ll have to register with them, but it’s free and can be a real lifesaver.

These are the main ones, any other drivers you need can also be seen from here, but at least you’ll have the modem and network card drivers so you’ll be able to get onto the Internet and get any other drivers you also need.
There are however a few other ways to get driver information if it’s too late and your hard drive has failed.
The first method if you are using a desktop is to remove the cover and just look at the name of the components from in the case, of course if you have a laptop this is not really an option.
The other way is to search the web for the model of computer you have, generally of you have a well know make of computer the manufacturers website will be useful here , but you can also search through one of the major search engines,
It’s very likely someone else will have had the same problem as yourself and will have posted something on the Internet. If you still cannot find what you are looking for , register with www.driverguide.com , they have a huge number of drivers , like I said above you will need to register, but it’s free. backup applications
