backup email address , get your mail backed up in case the worst happens

Backup email address , this is just as important as backing up the actual emails, although emails can be a major part of your social or business life,

Without our email addresses where would we be. You might be able to recover addresses from your emails but this would be both time consuming and laborious.   To backup emails from either Outlook or Outlook express is very straight forward and only takes a few minutes.   I would advise exporting as CSV or coma separated , by exporting this way the file format CSV is very easy to open from a multitude of different applications if necessary, such as Word , Excel or any other half decent text editing program.

Outlook Express

To begin with launch Outlook Express , from the file menu select Export and then address book,

Now you will have two choices Microsoft exchange personal address book and Text file ( comma separated values ) . Choose the comma separated option, select export

Now give the file a name and choose a location

Now select the fields you wish to backup, outlook automatically chooses which fields are populated to normally you can just select finish

Now just copy the file to another location if you need help backing up the file read out articles on windows backup and hardware backup devices

Outlook address backup

I have written this using Outlook 2003
Begin by launching the application , from the file menu select Import and Export

Now select export to a file , choose Comma Separated Values (Dos)

now choose what you wish to export " Contacts "

Give the file a name and then choose the location you wish to save to

Choose the custom setting here unless you need to change the export fields, but as a default Outlook will export any populated field names

Once you've clicked finish, it should only at a few seconds , from here you can browse to the location of the backed up address CSV file and copy it to where you wish ,

if you need help backing up the file , checkout our articles on using windows backup and the different types of external backup hardware available.
