What’s the Best Rated Spyware Removal Software?

Is there such as thing as the single best rated spyware removal software?

In my opinion no; but there are lots that I would maybe class as the next best thing to the best rated spyware packages, which is just as well as there is estimated to be around 50 new types of malware entering the internet each day, with just annoying to very malicious payloads.

One of the best ways to remove malware is to have more than one package on your computer, and as many are free it does make sense.

Like antivirus software there is no single package that can really claim to offer 100% immunity against all viruses its just impossible as new viruses are appearing very often.

Once a new virus is found it’s then a case of a patch being created for it, but in the meantime it means your computer could be exposed.

It’s the same for spyware, so by installing 2 or even 3 packages to remove malware you cut the odds of your computer getting infected.

Some of the best rated spyware packages I have come across, in order of preference.

1. MalwareBytes
One of the very best rated spyware packages around, has developed a good name for itself. Very capable of removing malware which cannot be found or removed by many other products

2. Spybot Search & Destroy
The original totally free spyware removal package, you have the chance to make a donation if you wish, but not mandatory. Very thorough scanning capability, one of the few packages I’ve successfully seen remove the Antivirus 2009 malware

3. Spyware Doctor
Now comes as part of the Google pack which shows how good this is if Google are willing to add it, choice of free or pay versions – read more on how to remove malware with spyware doctor..

4. AVG
More known for a good antivirus package, AVG have now added malware support to their scanner. Nice to have both together without the large bloated packages that some providers feel the urge to release.

5. Windows Defender
Originally released as a Beta which seemed to go on forever with the promise of having to pay. Microsoft have now released Windows defender as a freebee, making it a great choice as a totally free spyware removal package perhaps not the most thorough malware removal program, but its still very good as a real time scanner to work in conjunction with other packages.

6. Ad-Aware
One of the original solutions to remove malware , I remember this being the best program around for a long time, and we’d always recommend it, tried and tested, lost its way a little in light of the competition, but still a good package, available as a free or pay edition.

7. Unhackme
Runs a scan on startup, designed more to remove rootkit malware, scan only takes a few seconds so definitely worth having, can only be downloaded on a trial basis.

8. Super AntiSpyware
Choice of trial, free or professional editions, the main differences are, the trial version expires after a month, the professional edition currently costs around $30, the free edition like so many of these products has no real time scanner.

9. CW Shredder
Little known CW shredder is actually released by Trend Micro, nice and quick, not as comprehensive as MalwareBytes, but one of the best around for fixing Internet Browser Hijacking.

10. A-Squared Free
Another of the complete Antivirus and Antispyware packages, like it says on the website 2 scanners are better than 1, frequent updates make this a good if somewhat unknown choice.

Many of these such as Spybot offer totally free spyware removal and just ask for a donation if you are happy with the software, to further their research, but no obligation.

Other such as Malwarebytes offer both free and pay versions, the really difference is the real time protection.

A good strategy for protecting a computer is to purchase a full version of a program such as MalwareBytes to get very good real time protection, and then choose two other totally free spyware removal programs and then take it in turns running these every few days.

Tip
One of the most overlooked ways to keep your computer free of spyware or remove malware is to ensure that your computers Windows updates are kept up to date.

Much of the malware around exploits weaknesses within Windows; these are normally patched if your computer has the latest Windows updates.
