Blue Tooth USB Guide

blue-tooth-usb

Blue tooth USB , Pretty much every mobile phone or other mobile device today has Bluetooth built in, giving you the ability to transfer files or even access the web via a shared blue tooth connection

This makes perfect sense to be able to share a blue tooth connection via your pc or laptop.

Generally most computers do not come with Bluetooth built in, they usually only come with a WiFi connection which is completely different. ( you can checkout our WiFi network pages for more info ).

The simplest way of adding Bluetooth to a computer is by adding a blue tooth dongle; these are generally very small, being about an inch in length. Installing again is very simple, just run the installation CD and when prompted select a USB port and plug in the blue tooth dongle , it will now take a few minutes installing various parts of the blue tooth connection software.

Once installed the first thing you need to do is pair your device and implement security. Pairing you device simple means you setup a connection between your computer and mobile device, phone/pda etc.

To pair a device make sure it has blue tooth enabled and then from your computer go to Control Panel from the start menu, now you’ll see your blue tooth applications click Blue Tooth devices and search for your device. If the device cannot be found reverse the procedure and search for your computer from your device. Once paired you’ll be asked to setup a security key and to always trust this device.

Now you can send files, browse the internet ( if your computer has a shared internet connection ), even print documents which is very cool, plus much more.

Blue tooth USB dongles can be picked up for a few dollars and make great sense when you need to transfer files without using cables. The connection distance is around 32 feet or 10 metres.

The only downside of using blue tooth to transfer files is the actual transfer speed, this is not going to be faster than connecting via a cable and using USB2 connection speeds, but for general use and small files it’s great.
