Cannot Cancel Print Job ?

Cannot cancel print job ? there are a number of ways how we can cancel printing or to delete a print job that is stuck in the print queue in Windows XP.

Just about everyone has at one time or another suffered from a print job stuck in the print queue for one reason or another, this then stops any other print job as well, but what are our options, what can we do from here?

The first method is to try to cancel or delete the print job from the dialogue screen, but if the dialogue screen has already vanished move to the next tip.

If you look on the bottom right of the screen you’ll see a small printer icon, clicking on this will bring up the state of printing on your computer, you’ll be able to see the status of any print job, from here right click on the problem job and Cancel it.

If this never worked it may mean that the job or at least some of it has made it to the printer, and now the printer is waiting for the remainder so, Turn Off the Printer give it about 30 seconds and switch back on, this should have completely removed the job, but if not read on.

Now we shall stop the print spooler and delete any jobs it has stored. Now open up a command prompt, simply type CMD from the Run menu.

Copy and paste or type in the following, hitting the Return key after each line

net stop spooler
del %systemroot%\system32\spool\printers\*.shd
del %systemroot%\system32\spool\printers\*.spl
net start spooler

Now type exit to return to Windows

Before attempting to stop any print jobs make sure of the following.

If the print job is large it just may be taking longer to print.Large print jobs can increase print time considerably

Higher resolution print jobs such as images or photos also may take longer than normal to print.Hi resolution pics and images take up lots of space, a single hi resolution image can be in excess of 3gb, so make sure the image quality is no higher then the printer maximum resolution as the printer.

Make sure the printer is not jammed, has paper, and it is in properly or it may just jam the printer.Paper not seated properly will always generally give spurious problems.

Is the printer shared from a computer? If so are you accessing the computer via its IP address which may have changed?Always access shared files and printer computer/share names not IP addresses.

Have you been able to print from the printer before, it may have the wrong driver installed, this is also a symptom of garbage printing.
Even selecting the right printer driver, but wrong type can cause issues for example trying to print using a PostScript driver on a non PostScript printer will behave very oddly.
