Cannot connect to LAN , problems and solutions

Cannot connect to LAN , what can cause this ?
For starters incorrect IP addressing, if using DHCP make sure an IP address is actually being picked up. If static addressing is being used make sure all of the IP addressing details, IP address, Gateway & Subnet Mask are all correct,
it’s very easy to make a mistake and that’s all it takes to cause an issue.

Is there a local firewall running? Which is preventing an IP address being picked up? Simply disable the firewall to test, if this setup an exception or rule to allow access, or simply change your firewall software as any worth is salt should allow this as a default.

Is the issue happening to other users? This indicates either a patch panel or router/switch issue.

The network card link speed, is the network card link speed set to auto? Even if it is, it can be worth setting it manually to the actual speed of the network connection, older models of network cards cannot always automatically detect the network speed.
Is the network cable patched or patched correctly? To eliminate this quickly, simply plug into a known working computer, even if a network connection is patched, it may be patched wrongly if the network is segmented.

Is there a router in between the pc and other networking equipment, this may in effect put you onto separate networks, if this is the case routing will need to be setup.

Are there any other computers using the same IP address? , each IP address has to be unique, is there more than one computer with the same computer name?
Cannot connect to lan or simply the Domain ?
