If you cannot login to a website there always a pretty simple explanation for this, in most cases the fixes and problems coincide with not being able to register for websites as blogs as well.
Wrong username and password
Not simply just entering your credentials incorrectly, but just about all Internet browsers have a great little feature for remembering usernames and passwords, but this can also cause problems.
Start by clearing out the password cache,
If using Internet Explorer – Tools – Internet Options – under browsing history select Delete – make sure Form Data & Passwords are ticked – select delete.
Firefox – Tools – Clear Recent History – select Everything – Clear now
Account hacked
If you account has been hacked the chances are your password will have changed, plus your contact email address; in an attempt to stop you login in or receiving any email to reset you’re password; in this case you can only contact the sites administrators who will be able to help, make sure you use a complex password in future, nothing personal to you which can easily be guessed to found in a dictionary, for example M1cro$oft
Registering
If you’re attempting to register for a website or blog much of the time you will be sent an activation email, which will have a link within it, you need to click on the link, and this will then take you to the website.
If you have not received an activation email check to make sure it’s not gone into your email spam or trash folder. (You will need to move it to your email inbox to be able to click on the activation link)
Registered & using the right username/password, but still cannot login
Ensure your computer is not rejecting any cookies from the website; many websites want you to accept their cookies, not so they can see who you are, but just so they can see how many times your computer has visited them, plus it helps to make your browsing a bit easier especially if you’re going to purchase something, as it will help to remember what’s in your basket should you choose to close the site and re-open later.
Captures
In an attempt to cut down on spam posts and registrations many sites have implemented captures, this is simply an image with a question or characters you need to enter.
Some captures are really too difficult and can take several attempts to get them right, sometimes it’s worth listening to the capture just to ensure you have entered it correctly.
The impossible fix
It’s not always possible to login or register to a blog or website due to an issue with the site itself, when you consider how much can actually go wrong it’s not surprising that many sites will have a least several outages per year.
These can include..
- Hosting service has an issue
- Site is down for maintenance.
- Site has a problem ( this can include database problems, rights issues, viruses, not sending registration email, capture service not running, plus many more )
One other thing that i noticed was the problem can occur if the website uses flash and its corrupt, in this instance flash needs to be removed/repaired.
