Cannot Open E-Mail Attachments Using Outlook
When we cannot open e-mail attachments this usually points towards a security
setting.
Cannot open attachments Outlook permissions
Outlook attachment blocking was introduced with Internet Explorer 6 SP1 due to
the amount of problem attachments. And now by default Outlook security settings
are set relatively high, this is understandable as the main cause if computers
getting infected with virus’s or spyware is still due to email attachments.
If you are using Outlook the security settings can be changed either permanently
or on a temporary basis, which is recommended so the security settings are still
high.
To do this change the Outlook Express security settings to allow individual
attachments to be allowed.

From Outlook Express , go to the Tools Menu > Options >
Security tab > now un-tick “ Do not allow attachments to be saved or
opened that could potentially be a virus “
Be warned though leaving this option un-ticked will leave your computer exposed
to potentially dangerous email attachments
On top of this even if the attachment does come from a trusted friend or
colleague always make sure your antivirus software will still scan the email and
it’s attachment, taking for granted that email attachments from friends are ok,
could not be further from the truth.
For example if a friend of a friend of a friends computer became infected with
some type of malware this could easily be passed down the chain via email.
