Looking for a CD Copier ? , need
a CD Re-Writer for CD ROM Duplication
Latest standard CD Writer specs
CD Writers have come
a long way since the humble single speed drives, the latest type
of CD copier can burn a CD at around 52x , which equates to 7800
kb per second or a whole CD in 2 Minutes of course you’ll need a
fairly fast computer with a decent bus speed and CD’s that are
52x compatible to get the full 52 speed.
Re-Write speeds
have also increased and are now up to a respectable 32x compared
to the 4x and 8x speeds of a few years ago. The later drives
should also have a larger buffer, most are around 2mb which is
plenty, this stops all kinds of things such as buffer under
runs,
Where the data from
the computer is delayed for any number of reasons such as ,
another task running , this then means that the stream of data
to the CD copied is temporarily interrupted,
Luckily we have a 2mb
buffer that keeps streaming data to the actual copying process.
Once the computer is streaming data fine again , the 2mb buffer
on the CD copied fills up again.
By having the buffer
in place it means you’ll get far less copy failures and won’t
waste as many CD’s.
CD Media
CD Writers have come a long way
since the humble single speed drives, the latest type of
CD copier can burn a CD at around 52x , which equates to 7800 kb
per second or a whole CD in 2 Minutes of course you’ll need a
fairly fast computer with a decent bus speed and CD’s that are
52x compatible to get the full 52 speed.
When it comes to CD
media today it’s very straight forward, just make sure the CD’s
are compatible with the fastest speed of your CD copier. If you
purchase slower CD’s then the CD Writer will only burn or copy
at this speed.
When it comes to
re-writable cd’s , these can be used many times over and are
useful for frequent backups where you can just format and use
again, saving money in the long run. Initially they do cost a
little more , but for re-use you’ll save . When purchasing
CD’s make sure you only purchase a reputable make, all the big
electronic companies such as Fujitsu, Sony, TDK etc make CD’s ,
they may cost a little more than the unlabelled, but will still
be cheap.
For data integrity
it’s certainly worth it.
Interfaces , Drive
types Internal or External
If your looking for an external CD copier / burner then the best
will probably be USB , it’s easy to plug-in an configure and can
easily be removed and used in other machines.
Make sure though that if you purchase a USB drive that it has a
USB interface. USB 2 is around 40 times faster than USB 1.
If you have an older
pc or laptop / notebook it’s worth checking to see if that also
have a USB 2 interface.
The other type of drive available is the Parallel interface
type, this type of cd copier is still available , but are
significantly slower than the USB or IDE types due to the speed
of the Parallel port .
