Just about everyone
has problems trying to read a CD at some stage. Generally no
matter how hard you try to look after your CD’s they just seem
to attract scratches. Most very small scratches do not affect
performance, but some of the larger scratches can prevent read
errors on the CD.
What actually
happens is a CD player uses a laser beam to read data from the
disk. Each CD has a protective plastic layer, and it’s this that
gets scratched, and then the laser is unable to pass though the
scratched protective layer, and now we get the unreadable
errors. So now we need to be able to perform a repair and remove
the scratch on the CD. To repair the CD all of the following

same thing, but at different levels. Each repair technique
basically involves re-scratching each CD you wish to repair, the
scratches made by all of the compounds below make very fine
scratches, thus removing the larger scratches in the process.
Toothpaste is the

you may need to add a little water here. Once your happy with

dry the CD.
Metal polish,
something like good old brasso, just wipe gently with the
wadding or cotton wool, when finished apply petroleum jelly and
wipe with a clean dry cloth.Baking soda can be used for cleaning
a whole host of things, and is very good for removing slightly
worse scratches, again use a soft clean cloth to perform your

There are a number of
cleaning solutions on the market that are very good at CD repair
, but remember to try first on test CD’sIf you really don’t wish
to get your hands dirty you could always checkout your local
video store, many of these today offer a compact disk repair
service, it’s usually pretty cheap, but at the end of the day
the results are generally the same as what you can achieve at
home.
One other point to think about, if a CD does not work in one pc, if you
can try it in another before trying a disk repair, different
