Computer Freezing - Cleaning computer RAM Tips
Cleaning computer RAM , is your computer freezing for no apparent reason? Like most electrical connections if it's not a permanent connection over a short space of time the connections can begin to dull or tarnish, this in turn leads to poor conductivity between contacts.
There really is nothing that can stop this, as it depends on the environment your computer is stored in.
But luckily clean computer memory is pretty easy, to begin with when working with any electronic components always makes sure that your earthed or you can quite literally fry static sensitive components such as RAM or processors.
You will also need some cheap kitchen towel as this works like a very mild abrasive.
Once your earthed remove the power cord either from the mains or the computer.
Now remove the RAM and gently clean the contacts on both sides of each chip.
The easiest way to do this is to fold the tissue and clean both sides together.
Around half a dozen slow but firm wipes should be sufficient.
Now reinstall the RAM and test.
Usually symptoms of poor conductivity involve total freezing when the whole computer totally locks up and has to be hard rebooted, there will also be no logical pattern to the freezes, it can freeze anytime regardless of what you are doing.
I have even known a computer with contact problems to freeze when some banged the desk it was sitting on.
Other components can also suffer from this, such as pc cards, I even remember looking at a laptop with an internal mini PCI wifi card that had less than half the range of other laptops, this turned out to be a poor connection from the card to its arial cable, simple removing and refitting the cable fixed this in seconds.
