Thanks for the info.. It’s much appreciated. I contacted HP support and they had me run a system file check and it came out clean and with no integrity violations (whatever that means). I seem to be running alittle better since then.

No, I cannot assign a drive letter. While in the DiskManager, the flash drives (there are two of them) are seen as “healthy partition”, there is no drive letter assigned and it is not possible to assign one. When attempting to do so, no letters are offered.

Hi Wayne – can you allocate a drive letter from disk manager? Usually when no drive letter is allocated it means another device is trying to use the drive letter that is already occupied.

If you can change the drive letter this should be remembered for the future.

It sounds as though the email was just phishing for valid/working email addresses to add to mailing lists, by replying you just confirmed your address is working to them, i don’t think its any more than this as lots of mailing lists are created in this way.

Prepare for a lot of spam, personally i would download and use something like spam bully to put a stop to this.

My issue: I have two flash drives that are readable in several laptops but not on my home PC. It sees them (I get the “safe to uninstall” icon in the bottom right when I insert them, also, when I go to my Disk Manager, they are seen as “healthy” partitions but no drive number is associated with them. They’ve both been formated using NTFS and both were formated using the long format option. WHat is wrong with my home PC that makes it unable to assign a drive letter (and thus make them visible in Explorer)? Thank you.

I am concerned I’ve been hacked and due to my own stupidity.
A month ago I was sent a spam message advising me to send Microsoft my credentials. I know from the past these are spoofs but this time I had a feeling it could be real due to a friend using my computer for a couple days and this message stating someone had been signing in on my computer. I believed it was due to this friend signing in to his acct.. I checked the ISP and it said it was from Microsoft. So I answered the message.
I then contacted microsoft and they checked and said it was not from them inspite of the () ISP check. I then changed my password into my hotmail acct.. but did not give my windows signin credentials so I didn’t change that.
I’m noticing messages in my junk mail with my address/user name as the sender. I’m assuming I was hacked. I ran the test just now by going to my comp. mngmt>event viewer. I saw alot of errors but couldn’t find how to look for conspicious log ins. Can you please advise me?
This was my mistake for answering this spam message. I could kick myself now. I knew better.

I can see all the list in my address book, however when i search, nothing comes up. it seems the contacts are not getting connected with the address book.
I have tried going to the address book options and adding all the contact files. but it is not showing any contacts from the outlookdatafile.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi, I have a mac in my bedroom with a network setup for my wifes laptop and son’s desktopPC (which is in the garage 30′ away)
no prob with the laptop but my sons desktop computer doesnt get connection all that great some of the time. He is on online gaming often, with freezing etc..
There is no internet connection in the garage and was curious what can be done to boost his connection to my server..??

So I went to the indexing service and changed lots of stuff to manual. I restarted my machine and got a black screen with start and a few other icons on right bottom and a message saying c:\\ windows\system\config\systemprofile\desktop refers to a location that is inavailable………
Then I got on another computer and realized these instructions were for xp and I have vista premium home. HELP!!!!

I have a Lexar 64GB usb stick. Recently it stopped working. When I insert it into the computer AutoPlay no longer opens with options which would allow me to open the folders on the stick. I can open Explorer and see it listed there, but when I click on it, it now says that I need to format it before use. I can right click on the Removable drive icon and check Properties to see that the stick still contains files, but I can’t open it. I believe formatting the stick would erase all data on it. Have I lost my files or is there any way to access them?

No a virus, trojan, malware whatever you want to call it is a piece of software your worst can scenario if you cannot remove it is to simply reformat your computer and reinstall Windows.

i was chatting with my girl friend on gmail and she is able to hear the audio of youtube videos from my computer, i haven’t plugged in the mike yet,,,,,is my computer hacked? and i have 5 computer accounts like, administrator,help assistant ,guest,support_38 and another one with my name….i don’t know which one is the odd one,,,,,,pls help

I am sure through my email I got hacked. I have little information on computer. Please help me out. the step you mentioned to check system logs using event viewer. I did the above steps for even view it does not show user name or computer as it shows in your security window. and also when right clink on event properties it is not same. Could plz help me get this right. 2nd question: the above information says Another way to check is from the admin console on your router how can I do it and also do not know how the check to see if there is another user account. I was fixing a broken cover on my laptop (hp pavilion dm4-1160us) and i forgot to take out the battery. after that the power is not coming again. when i used the adoptor on a diff pc, the adoptor works alright. i thought the power switch board might gome bad so i bought a replacement, but still no power. what can be the possible cause? is it a possibility the motherboard is blown?
