Arief Question
Hi, I've been following your guide to upgrade my ACER 5050's
processor, i got my self a used AMD Turion 64 x2 TL58, at first
the system was doing fine, but after several reboot it wont
start anymore, usually it got until pass bios and then when the
system loads, suddenly my Acer just turn off, is it because
overheating?? thanks in advance :)
Answer
Hi 2 processor cores will or should generate more heat if both
cores were in effect each working as hard as a single core, but
usually as most applications support multi-threading the
processors work should be split and at most they should be
working half as hard as a single core for the same workload, the
only reason I can think that over heating would occur so quickly
is if either the cpu fan were not operating or something were
obstructing the vents. We really pushed the test model as far as
possible and could not get it to fail or the CPU temperature to
rise above 80 deg even after leaving it on for almost 200 hours.
The only advice
I can offer is to open the case again to make sure nothing has
come loose.

Answer
Don’t despair, if your computer is giving errors it does sound
like a software issue if that’s some consolation, try booting
from the windows cd and then go to run a Chkdsk from here you
can read full details on how to do this from here – if this
fails run a windows repair you will not lose anything but it
will check all your windows files, more here on this
