Annette Question:
We have installed Windows Vista and I cannot install my Lexmark P6350 printer. The manual says 6300 as is the CD rom. I just cannot manage and don't know what I am doing wrong. Please reply in English. Thank you.

Answer: Hi in light of your printer issue after upgrading to Windows Vista, it sounds as though your drivers CD does not appear to have a compatible Windows Vista driver.
Download the driver you need from Here..

AnthonyB Question: I have two questions...why cant this teacher get her laptop to read her junk drive(thumbdrive)? also, there is a 3100 dell color printer reading memory too low- job too large, but there is no job sent to it...any ideas.

Answer: Normally thumb drives are pretty painless, plug in and go, Windows Vista, XP and 2000 have built in support, and other systems will require a drive to be installed. If the drive plugs in and appears to be working, but you cannot see it then it may be conflicting with another drive letter, checkout our article on resolving this.
Other than that do other USB devices work in your computer and does the thumb drive work in other computers.
As for your printer problem not recognizing the amount of memory it has installed, power off the printer and remove and re-seat the memory.
If this does not work perform a factory re-set, this will lose any custom settings such as IP / Network settings so it will need to be setup again. Checkout our USB Pen drive Page

Trevor Question: I wish to upgrade from USB 1 to USB 2. Is it possible to take out the USB 1 and put the USB 2 in its place, instead of using a new 'slot' Thank You

Answer: Unfortunately there is no way to actually upgrade existing USB ports from USB1 to USB2, the only way to get USB2 is to add another card, for desktop computers PCI type and for Laptops PCMCIA type, Checkout our USB upgrade page

Denise Question: sound has gone from my computer all together have tried windows update but nothing. it says I have no sound at all please could you help. will I have to purchase something for me to get sound again thanks.

Answer: If sound was working fine what has happened to cause the issue?, has anything been installed or updated recently?
If you are using Vista or XP go into device manager from Vista from the Start menu - Control Panel - System and Maintenance - System - Device Manager or from Windows XP right click on MyComputer select Properties - Hardware Tab - Device Manager.

Now see if the Sound section has any Crosses or Exclamation marks on it, if it does you'll either need to reinstall the sound driver, just right click and Select update driver or you can always use system restore which will enable you to restore your pc to an earlier time when the sound was ok.

If you want to checkout System Restore which is a part of Windows XP & Vista Windows System Restore If you need to download the driver for the sound card hopefully you'll have the drivers disk that came with your computer, but if not your pc manufacturers website should be able to help with any drivers.

If there are no problems with the device manager section then the only other place to look is your speaker system, this can simply be tested by plugging in a set of head phones.

John H Question: Hello my motherboard has packed up I haven't backed up my files I have purchased a second hand Dell (2yrs old) is there anything I can do to retrieve my files my old computer was 8 years and a old Pentium 3 I installed a new 160gig memory about 9 months ago would this fit into the new machine.

Answer: Hi there are a number of options open to you, as you specify your computer is around 8 years old and the disk around 9 months, it should have an IDE interface, probably the easiest way would be to purchase an external USB caddy and simply put the disk into this, this will also give you a good backup device should the worst ever happen, other than this the other way would be to install a an IDE card into your new computer unless it still has any IDE ports, which would be doubtful. Either of these options will enable you to see everything on the older hard drive, and then simply copy over your data.

Greg Question: My computer goes into PC entering power saving mode on bootup and there is nothing I can do. I can't get into the BIOS. It is just frozen. What can I do?

Answer: Try hitting the F8 key as your computer is booting up, this will stop any drivers from loading that will cause this, but I have not heard of power saving settings being so short, are you using a laptop that maybe has a flat battery and it not charging, if you can be a little more specific we’ll provide more assistance.

Dorothy J Question: Hi can you help with a USB flash drive that has 2 drives. One 1Mb the other 3Mb onto which I have put my photos to display on a digital frame. When the USB is connected the display only reads the empty Z drive and not the big F which has the pics...help! thanks.

Answer: Most digital photo frames will only recognize a single partition, so either set the drive as a single partition or make the partition with your images in the primary partition.

Heather Question: My computer was wiped when I got a virus Everything is back up except MSN and my email. I have tried every and my default answer comes back invalid. What can I do to get back on MSN?

Answer: MSN is simply a username and password, can only presume you have the wrong password or a firewall is preventing access.

Sally M Question: I thought that I looked at on your web site a wonderful listing of all of the features that I should address when purchasing a laptop computer, but I can't find it now. computer questions

Answer: Hi try http://www.computer-adviser.com/laptop-pc.html and the articles follow on from the link at the bottom.

Nancy Question: Yes, I was wondering if you could tell me what I can do for my computer...I have been running Window XP Home version, and my activation number no longer works. What can be done or where could I get a new number?

Answer: Did you not initially activate your copy of windows ? anyway if you call Microsoft from the phone number on the activation screen an automated assistant will talk you through reactivating your copy of windows xp.

Mrs B Question: Please would let me know how I can get onto the internet from our pc to my laptop (we have the internet on the pc)what will I need to buy to do this?, many thanks.

Answer: Hi You have a number of options available, you can either use a router or share the connection from the internet pc directly, the router is the better option, not only does it give you more security, the laptop will not be dependent on the desktop computer for its connection, checkout our setting up a home wireless network here, http://www.computer-adviser.com/wireless-networking-communication.html

Rajendra Question: I am having Compaq Presario sr1922cu Minitower AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2GHz Processor, 512MB RAM (256 x 2)with 4 slots, 120GB Hard Drive, 16X DVD+/-RW Drive, Windows XP Professional . I want to upgrade RAM with TWO 512 MB RAM in the remaining two slots. Will it be correct. Then total RAM will become 1.5 GB. Some of my friends said one should install similar type of RAMs ( either 256 or 512) in 4 slots otherwise the upgrade purpose will be defeated. At present I have 4 RAMs in 4 slots 2 x 256, 2x 512 MBs. or should I remove 2 256 MB keeping 2 512 MBs in two slots. Please advise me at your earliest

Answer: In regard to the hardware you have, you should not have any problems installing 2x512mb of RAM, there used to be issues upgrading older RAM types such as EDO which needed to be upgraded in pairs, but your pc should not have any such issues.
