Email Software Client List
Email software may or may not cost the earth, but there is a large selection of software to choose from, many of which are free.
Microsoft Outlook Express
Our first email client and the most common is Outlook Express, this free emailing software can be downloaded from Microsoft, but it comes with all Microsoft operating systems.
Outlook express offers POP3 & very good HTTP email support for services such as Hotmail, where it actually downloads your HTTP email rather than storing it on the server like most email clients. It also has its own backup emailing software built in; you can even backup your email accounts, which is a nice feature. The only downside of this email software is no calendar or exchange support or features.
Microsoft Outlook
This email client should not be confused with its cut down cousin Outlook Express, Full blown Outlook is not email free software, it can be purchased as part of office or on its own.
There have been a number of version such as 2000, 2002/XP, 2003 and now 2007, each version is superior to the previous, the only niggle is the size of the version, each version has grown in size and requires more processing power.
But if you’ve got a powerful pc, 2007 is the one to go for. It offers just about every known email feature and support, including POP3, Exchange & HPPT, and the HTTP support is much more reliable than previous versions, backup email software built in, calendars, emailings, plus there are many plugins-addins available.
Eudora
Stepping away from Microsoft, we have Eudora email, just recently it has now become totally free, this makes it a very interesting piece of software. It offers more features than Outlook Express generally, but it does have limitations with HTTP email accounts.
Mozilla
Here we also include Netscape Mail as Mozilla is basically this, apart from being a few steps ahead. This email free software provides all the basic functionality that we’d expect from a decent email client, again basing it on Outlook Express it performs well enough, but I found the application to be limited when it came to HTTP, and quite slow when using multiple accounts.
There are of course many more email clients around, some free, some available as a demo, we have found Outlook to be the best around, especially if you need something with many extra functions.
Otherwise if the price puts you off Outlook express offers a nice package with the all important backup functions, but if you need the calendar function then checkout Eudora.
Other email client software available includes Becky, Mulberry, Pegasus Mail, Pine, Poco Mail, The Bat, E-Promter, Fast Check, POP Peeper.
