How to Export Firefox Bookmarks

Backing them up
When backing up your bookmarks you have a choice of Firefox’s default format which is the .JSON format or for something more compatible with everything else HTML is a the other choice.

Note
If you choose to export Firefox bookmarks as a .JSON file you can only import back into Firefox.

Also if you import a .JSON file back into Firefox it will overwrite your current bookmarks.

Using HTML will allow you to import into other browsers, open your bookmarks file as a web page and if you import into Firefox it will not overwrite exciting bookmarks.

Lets Export Firefox Bookmarks
To begin with go to the Bookmarks Menu and select – Organise Bookmarks… or Hit keys CTRL + Shift + B – either method will bring us to the Bookmarks Library screen.

From the Import and Backup menu choose your Backup (.JSON) or Export (HTML) choice based on above.

If we choose to Export as HTML this can then be opened directly as a file or easily imported into just about any browsers favorites or bookmarks

Tip
If you choose to export Firefox bookmarks as HTML you can open the bookmarks file via Open file or CTRL + O from Firefox’s File menu, once you have the file open you can set it as your home page for quick access to your favorite sites.

To set the bookmarks page as your home page, go to the Tools menu – Select Options & the Main Tab – then under Home Page select Use Current Pages.

Rather than having to export Firefox bookmarks why not setup your favorites online? Its easy and quick to do, plus its free.

It means whenever you use another computer you will be able to see them once you sign into them, make a change and the change is made online so it’s same for every computer.
