Fix Computer Problem Articles

Fix Computer Problem / If your pc suffers from hardware problems, this can be difficult and sometimes expensive if you have to replace parts, but luckily hardware problems are quite rare.

For more article links see below

Possible hardware failures generally consist of the following
Monitor
System board or Motherboard
Processor
Ram or Memory
Hard disk
Floppy Drive
Power Supply
Processor or CPU
Processor fan or heat sink
PCI or AGP Expansion cards such as Sound , video or network cards

If you have a tower or desktop computer, the ease of fixing it is far greater than a laptop / notebook

pretty much all computers these days are a modular design, this mean that if a part goes wrong you can usually replace just the part, which means of course this keeps the cost of repairs down.

If on the other hand you have a laptop or notebook and you suffer problems, the components are not cheap and it can be really involved to replace things like processors or motherboards,

To high light the difference the same specification motherboard for a laptop may cost four times the price of the equivalent desktop component.

If a hardware problem occurs, sometimes it's easy to spot other times it not, we've put together a list of possible hardware failure scenarios and how to check them.

Dead monitor this can easily be tested by swapping the power cable around with the computer base unit, this will let you know whether the problem lies with the power cable/mains plug or the monitor itself.

If found to be a monitor problem, unless you have something at least 19" lcd, it probably won't be cost efficient to get it repaired.

Dead Base unit This can be tested by doing the reverse of the way we tested the monitor, so just swap the power cables around,

If you still get no power to the computer base unit, then it may be the power supply that's blown

Power but no picture
There are a few possibilities here, the first is , are you using a flat screen monitor ? if so try to catch the screen in the light and see if you can actually see a very dark picture on the screen, if so this means the back light for the screen has gone, it's a costly repair.

If it's not the backlight, have you had anything added to the system recently such as extra memory,

Even if you haven't the first thing would be to reseat any memory in the computer, even a poor connection from the Ram "memory" to the motherboard slot will cause a loss of picture. The next thing to check is the video or graphics card.

If you have an old one you can test it with, by replacing the original one , this would be the best way. If the computer has been moved recently check the VGA cable from the monitor to the computer base unit, check the end, make sure no pins have become bent when, the cable was plugged back in.

Lastly if you still have no picture it looks like a problem with the motherboard, this can cost only a few bucks up to hundreds, depending on what your looking for

Your local trusted computer store will probably be the best people to advise you on this.
