Windows Installer Cleanup Utility - msicuu.exe , which is part of Windows, It’s very easy to run and use , just type msicuu.exe from the start menu and you will get the Windows installer Cleanup Screen , registry repair window

 
From here just select the Application that was installed when the problem first occurred, this will then remove any associated registry entries and hopefully correct the problem. If you are still having problems, I would really recommend that you now rebuild your computer.

You can run a Windows XP repair by booting from your original install CD, but after this you will still have to reinstall the applications again, and will still have a messy registry.
