How to Fix Internet Explorer 8

Fix Internet Explorer 8 – The latest incarnation of Internet Explorer 8 has been received with mixed views by general users.

Although it has much better security than previous versions plus a host of other new functionality it does seems to have a few general issues, the most annoying of them being freezing and slow page loading.

If you’re having problems such as crashing/freezing or slow page loading problems try running the following fixes

Don’t forget to delete all internet temp files and cache, this is the easiest way to fix IE 8 – This can be done from the Tools menu – Internet Options – under browsing history hit Delete – select History, Cookies and Temporary Internet files. This may take a few minutes if your internet cache is large.

Launch the DOS shell by running the Command Prompt from the Accessories menu, or type CMD from the Start/Run menu

(If you’re using Vista or XP right click on the command prompt and select Run as Administrator)

Now type regsvr32 actxprxy.dll and restart your computer

Managing Add-ons
One of the biggest culprits of browser problem are Add-ons, luckily they can easily be disabled or enabled to determine if this is the cause of the problem, these can be accessed by going to the Tools menu and Manage Add-ons, now just disable all of them and gradually enable each until the problem re-occurs, now you should have pinpointed the problem.

Antivirus and Firewall software
try disabling any firewall or antivirus software for a second to check if the browser now works ok. Many of the large security products can b e a little too overzealous literally taking over and blocking everything access to the internet.

Resetting to Default Settings
a good way to repair IE 8 is to reset it to its defaults – to do this go to the tools menu – Advanced tab and hit the reset button.

Reinstalling IE8
the next way to fix IE 8 is the reinstall which can be accessed from Control Panel -Add/Remove programs (XP) or Control Panel – Programs & Feature – Installed Programs (Vista)

Tips
if you have been unable to repair IE 8 make sure the problem actually lies with IE8

It’s a good idea to install a secondary browser such as Firefox, Google Chrome or Apple’s Safari, this provides a good backup browser, as well as confirming if a browser issue is directly related to the browser itself.

Make sure you also check – the speed of your internet connection, if your ISP has problems this could easily affect browser speed giving symptoms of slow page loading speed.

If possible look on your Internet Service Providers home page to check their internet service status
