How to Backup Your Files and Why

How to backup ,Backups are a vital part of any disaster recovery plan, of course a restore should only be a last resort, but it’s something that needs to be put in place before the worst happens.

Imagine if any large corporation never made backups, the results could be catastrophic, but in fact no more so to you than losing all of your data, and yet we still choose not to backup our data, I never used to backup any data as well, but when the big one happened, luckily I was able to recover my files, but it did shock me into taking action.

So my reason for not backing up my data was just laziness, but other reasons also include, I don’t know how to back my data, my pc will never fail, maybe you’re someone who does not mind losing everything or you think it will cost too much money, the truth is, if your hard drive does fail and you need to pay some company to recover your data, that will be a big expense, much more than the hundred dollars for a DVD writer.

Backing up data is very straight forward and generally will only take a few minutes, there are a whole range of backup options available to us now, how many pc’s don’t have CD or DVD writers? It’s the easiest, cheapest way to back large amounts of data, a single CD can hold around 700mb, with DVD’s being able to hold around 4.7 & 9gb of data, that is a lot and will easily backup most systems. The beauty of this type of backup apart from the low cost is the ability of make multiple backups, so if one fails you can easily revert to another.

Windows comes with its own backup software which will compress the data, enabling you to store more in less space, you can select the files or locations you wish to backup and save the settings so you simply select the backup template and off you go next time.
