How To Set up WiFi Guide Part 2
Want to known how to Set Up Wifi
?
Do you need a Wireless router or Wireless
Modem/router, which one to go for really depends on your type of
Internet connection, there are really only two types the first
is a DSL Wireless Router, and it works with Cable Type Internet
connections.
The other type is called an ADSL wireless
Modem/Router this will work with Phone line type Broadband
connections.
Both types of wireless devices normally come
with around four RJ45 network ports on the rear, in case you
want to you can connect maybe a pc or a printer via a cable type
connection.
Note-the ADSL or cable router connects to
your existing Internet box. The ADSL type completely replaces
your existing box.
The
ADSL connection can share the phone socket, you are still able
to browse and use the phone to make and receive calls at the
same time
The DSL or cable type connection uses a
completely different connection the phone, sometimes if you are
renting a property the owner may not be too happy with Cable
type connections as it requires a hole to be drilled in the wall
and a cable running outside.
The next step is to get the network cards for
the computer's if you've got a desktop pc you want to connect
via Wireless Networking Communication wireless you'll need to
get a PCI type card (PCI means Peripheral Connect Interface,
this is the name given to a type of port inside your pc, which
enables you to add such things as network cards, modems, sounds
cards).
If
your looking for a wireless card for a laptop, you have three
choices, the first is the PCMCIA type card, make sure your
laptop has a PCMCIA interface it's a long vertical slot in the
side of the laptop. The next choice is the built in Wireless
network card, if your laptop already has one built in great, but
if not check around and see if your Laptop supports this. The
other type of connection is the USB Wireless Dongle, any laptop
or pc with a USB card can use one of these, as long as it has
USB ports of course.
How to set up wifi - the advantages and
disadvantages of the network card types are as follows.
Built in WIFI connector, this is really the
best of the three; it does not use any other ports, cannot be
seen or does not have to be removed when transporting the
laptop. Downside if your laptop does have the ability to have
one of these installed, unless you are pretty confident about
opening your laptop, might be worth getting your local pc store
to install it.
Some of the easy ones just require removal of a
bottom panel, which is an easy job, but some others such as Dell
D400's and some IBM ThinkPad’s require you to remove the
keyboard to install them.
The USB type WIFI
dongle, these are quick and easy to install, downside they use a
USB port, not good if you only have one on your laptop or your
laptop only has USB 1 type connections (USB type connections
come in two flavors USB 1 & USB 2, USB 1 was ok when it was
first brought out, but now it is considered very slow,
