How to Increase Google Adsense Revenue

There are many ways to increase Google Adsense revenue, if you have a site or blog and you have never optimized your Adsense code you could be losing some major bucks.

By optimizing your ads you may be able to double, triple or even quadruple your Adsense revenue.

How to Increase Google Adsense Revenue

  • Increase the amount of traffic to your site

  • Use larger ad blocks

  • Limit the amount of ads for pages with less content.

  • Color scheme

  • Font

  • Place ads where visitors are most likely to see them.

  • Use text rather than image ads

  • No public service ads

  • Do your articles reflect clearly the ads you want?

  • Check the ads that have been allocated are online with the content (but don't click)

  • Use Google Analytics to monitor CTR

Increase the amount of traffic to your site Of course one of the best ways to increase Google Adsense revenue is to increase your web traffic, there’s a whole host of ways to do this, checkout our article on this.

Use larger ad blocks such as the 336x280 size this means you get around 4 ads per ad block, I use 3 of these within the actual body of the content.

Only use 3 large ad blocks if there is enough content on the page, after all it should be predominantly content then ads, not ads then content.

Color Scheme Use colors that blend in well with the color of your site, not only will it look more professional, but visitors generally go out of their way to avoid loud colorful  in your face ads.

Don’t try to fool people in to clicking on ads, this is counterproductive in the long run as it will damage the sites reputation, plus you will probably get a very low click through to sales rate which will get your site penalized by Google’s smart pricing, more here on smart pricing.

Make sure the link of the ad is blue, any blue text amongst other colors is generally thought of as being a hyperlink.

Font Choose an ad font that is the same type as the majority of your content so your ads blend in well to the rest of your site.

Place ads where visitors are most likely to see them Marketers have known for ages that there is a general way that people read a page, this involves from left to right, as you can see from the heat map/image, the darker areas show the locations of the strongest ad performance.

Remember though this is only a guide, and although a good place to start nothing compares to testing various ad placements yourself.

Use text rather than image ads A picture says a thousand words, but not in this case, if you use image ads you get a single ad, use text ads and they offer around 4 times as much, plus they also explain in more details the specifics of what each ad offers.

It’s well known that many visitors will actually go out of their way to avoid banners and popup advertising methods.

No public service ads If Google Adsense has to ads relevant to your websites content you may see Public service ads in their place, this means ads for charities etc, of course this is a good thing, but it does mean it limits the revenue your site earns.

I find it far better to choose to disable the public service ads from the Adsense console, and then have a replacement ad service ready to display ads if this happens.

This way you will generate more money than the charity ads do, so you can make a donation to your favorite charity with a percentage of the revenue if you so wish.

Monitoring your websites statistics Setup an account with Google Analytics, it’s free and gives in-depth way to see all manner of statistics to your website, including amount of visits to each page, click through rate, where you visitors are coming from, plus lots more information that can all be used to monitor and tweak your pages and ads.

Setup channels with your Google ads so you can see which ad blocks, colors and fonts work best

Check the ads that have been allocated are inline with the pages content

(check but don't click on them)
It’s a good idea to actually have a look at the pages on which the ads are not performing well, it could mean that the Google ads are not in line with the content of the page; I had the issue when a page on Windows firewalls was getting ads from replacement Windows companies, after changing the meta tags and keywords the ads became more in line with the content.
