JS-Downloader-BNL – Analysis & Removal

JS-Downloader-BNL has been updated to high profile due to the amount of media attention it has received.

This particular malware is classified as a Trojan, which then uses browser exploits to attempt to load banking Trojans onto visiting computers

Normal mode of infection
Downloaded onto computers when browsing websites where it has been hosted (make sure browser security is adequately high)

Removal
To begin with if your operating system supports Windows system restore (Vista,XP or ME) make sure you disable this to prevent re-infection as the malware could be stored within your system restore points, and become active if you have to restore back to any of these with the infection.

This can be done by Right Clicking on My Computer – Select Properties – System Restore tab and then put a tick in the box to disable it, now select OK

Run a scan using the following or follow the manual removal

Mcafee, Malwarebytes, AVG (Malwarebytes and AVG have free editions) are known to remove JS-Downloader-BNL although unconfirmed, but like with all malware its worth running two or more packages such as

Malwarebytes, Spybot search and destroy and Spyware doctor to get a good level of overall protection.
