WiFi is an abbreviation for Wireless Fidelity , which refers to
any LAN or network which is 802.11 compliant.
TCP/IP
TCP/IP stands for Transmission Control Protocol / Internet
Protocol , most just referred to IP .
TCP enables two devices using TCP to connect ,
IP then deals with the actual data transfer .

ADSL “asymmetric digital subscriber line” refers to a high speed
internet connection “Broadband” which uses the same connection

DSL
DSL or cable uses a totally independent connection for a high

Firewall

DHCP “ Dynamic Host Control Protocol “ this refers to a dynamic
IP address being allocated to your computer.

Static IP Address
A static IP address is manually entered into your computer. This
will remain constant until it’s manually if ever changed.
Mac Address
Mac “ media access control “ Address refers to the serial number
of a network card. All network cards have a mac address built
into them.
This can be found by looking on the card or by
typing ipconfig /all at the command prompt , this will then show
up as the physical address.
NAT
NAT “network address translation” enables multiple computers on
a network to access the internet using a single IP address.
Generally a router would use the ISP’s
allocated IP address, then allocate it’s own IP addresses to any
computers connecting to it.
LAN
LAN “ local area network “ refers to two or more computers being
connected on the same network
WAN
WAN or wide area network refers to computers being connected
across different networks. A good example of this is the
internet , which is basically one big network , made up of
smaller networks.
