Sharing Files Using a Network Hard Drive

Network hard drive file sharing is the latest and perhaps the best way to share and backup files between two or more pc’s.
Thinking of buying an external USB or Firewire hard drive ? Wait just hang on a minute..

Why not take this a step further and look into purchasing a Network hard disk or as it’s technically known a LAN/WAN server. As soon as server is mentioned people immediately think of a noisy expensive box of ample proportions, but as of late there has been a lot of interest in network hard disks or drives.

A network hard disk is basically the same size as a USB external hard drive, but instead of plugging directly into your computer it plugs into your internet router network connection allowing you to have a file storage system which works independently of any computer hardware. You can implement security restrictions via passwords to prevent any unauthorised access.

The later generation of Network hard disks even offer both wired and wireless connectivity with WEP or WPA security making them an excellent choice for a hidden data store.

In terms of cost comparisons the wireless type is of course slightly more expensive, but this is more than justified when comparing the extra feature.

Network hard drive s are available in 3.5 and 2.5 sizes. Checkout our external hard drive article to learn more
