our dell pc monitor keeps shutting down it’s 7 years old and has started going blank after a few minutes. When we turn monitor off then on again the picture lasts a few seconds before going dull then off altogether. Our computer has started struggling with the workload and slowing down lately is this related? Is the monitor giving up?

It does sound as though the monitor is on its last legs, could be the high voltage power supply failing as it works for a few minutes, the only real test is to check with another monitor though.
