personal web page , looking to setup a personal web page ? ,not sure how to go about it ?

Creating a personal web page or site what do you need to know ?

it includes web hosting , web space , domain names , email , the best applications to use to create a web page , creating a web page building tips

Web Hosting Solution

If you want to build a web site or personal web page the first thing is to get yourself some web hosting ,

this must include three things ,

a domain name ,

web space " usually around 50mb for a general web hosting account "

email , " most web hosting companies offer POP3 email , but some offer web mail as well "   for more information on email please visit our email page where we discuss in more detail , the different types of email and how to configure them.   You’ll have the choice of Domain names , the best way to decide what to use is to make the name as specific as possible for the content of your site,

this way anyone seeing your site name will automatically know what your site is based on.

There are lots of different web hosting providers around offering pretty much the same packages, so as long as you know what you are looking for in terms of web space ,

domain name & email this will be easy for you, you just have to check the prices some do not vary a great deal but on the other hand some do, so just shop around.

Web Design Applications

To create a personal web page you’ll need two things, the first is some kind of web design tool,

the two that I’d recommend are Front page by Microsoft and Dream weaver by Macromedia , both tools have pretty much the same range of features ,

but if your really just starting out , then I’d personally recommend using Front page as it’s a little bit more straight forward.

Next you’ll need something to create any graphic material you require.

The two applications I use for this are Paintshop Pro by Jasc and Adobe Photoshop.

I prefer Photoshop, but due to the cost and features I’d recommend Paintshop pro it is a very good package to use, it also comes with Animation shop, which is very easy to use , so you can create some good animations for your personal web page.

Creating a web page , building tips

When you begin to create a personal web page , there are a few rules which will make your site look professional and will attract more people.

The first is to make sure that you keep it relatively simple; by this I mean sure have a few graphics, but not too many flashy animations and not too many graphics, keep the colours neutral and not too fierce.

When people come to your site, they are there to read what you’ve written, not to look at the graphics and colours, another point to remember is ,

the more graphics you have on a page the longer it takes to load, someone with a slow internet connection will not wait for a slow page to load unless it is something they are really looking for,

a prime example of this is the Nike website www.nike.com I love their products, but is all the flashy intro really necessary, I have a pretty slow web connection and I am simply not prepared to wait, and I’m sure there are scores of other people like this.

Another point to bare in mind is the screen size , if you have a nice big screen with a high resolution, your web page might look good on your monitor ,

but someone using a small screen with a lower resolution will see the screen differently, it’s better to create a website for around 1024 x 768 this way it will fit well onto most peoples screens.

Front page has a feature where you can see what the resolution will look like on other screen sizes, which is very useful.

One of the best things you can do is have a good look around on the Web see how other sites look,

check the sites that you often visit, how much attention do you pay to how the site looks, note how much more attention you pay to the information you’re looking for, rather than the look of the site   I’ve covered the basics here which should be enough for you to get started, if you’re not sure if you want a free site or a pay site read our impartial guide
