Registry Fix Tips

Registry fix

If your looking for a registry fix there are a large number of registry repair options available to us, depending on the particular registry problem that you are experiencing.

Before you start any system maintenance, especially is a delicate area like the registry is involved, make sure you create a system restore point, using Windows system restore, which is part of Windows XP and Vista.

And if the worst happens we can simply restore to our previous configuration, for more on Windows system restore read our article from the link below.

Most registry problems occur when applications or parts of the operating system are changed, this can mean installed, removed or upgraded, then if the changes made to the operating system are not accurately reflected within the registry then we begin to experience registry errors and problems.

This usually happens due to threads or loose ends which are pointers within the registry which point to wrong or invalid file locations.

Over a period of time depending on how many registry changes are made the loose end threads gradually build up in number causing problems from slowness to major system problems.

If your computer is running slow or is giving general registry related errors, running a registry cleaner such as regclean which also acts as a registry optimizer, is a good place to start this checks and removes many of the invalid registry entries.

If you are getting specific errors within Windows and it’s related to software that you have removed then it may be worth using the Windows registry editor to find and remove this. To use simply type Regedit from the Start > Run Menu

Make sure you backup your existing registry now from the file export registry menu.

Now simply search for the application that you have removed. For more on your Registry look here.

If you find your computer is still having issues after this then apart from a commercial registry cleaner, we have two more choices.

1. If you are using Windows XP or Vista it comes with a wonderful utility called System Restore, this basically enables us to restore our computer configuration to an earlier point in time, i.e. before the error started occurring. For more information on this read our System Restore article.

The only downside of system restore, you can not always restore to a desired date.

2. System repair, a Windows system repair if done properly will enable us to basically reset our Windows configuration while allowing us to maintain installed applications and files. Overall a system repair is technically more involved than a system restore, but if you need a hand with a Windows repair read our how to guide
