Is your Safari Hijacked ? Not sure ?
Better to be safe and presume it is, usually Safari hijacked type
issues only take a short while to fix.
Leaving the problem could not only be
annoying due to Safari being redirected to various other
websites, but could actually effect your bank balance if you
perform any type of online financial transactions, due to some
types of browser hijacking which can result in Safari being
redirected to other websites, but could also actually record
your bank security details and send them easily to creator of
the Safari hacked software.
How Common is it
to find Safari Hijacked
It’s actually more common than
people realize, after all any software which modifies or checks
which websites you visit is in effect hacking Safari.
Of course the majority of this type of software is not
malicious, but I don’t know about you, but I would prefer not to
have it on my computer in the first place.
This type of
software can easily be installed simply by visiting a web page
if your Safari’s security is low.
Sadly this type of
Malware is more common than ever, of course as the Internet
grows with more people using it and more technologies being
used, such as ActiveX, Flash, Java to name a few it does mean we
will experience more of this type of Malware.
Repairing Safari
Hijacked Issues
To
begin with delete any Internet Temp Files and Cookies to help
prevent re-infection once it’s removed.
Tools Menu > Empty Cache > Hit the Empty Button
Now we need to actually
remove the Malware hacking Safari.
There are lots of free
applications on the market which are very good at removing this
type of Malware, such as.
Malwarebytes
– Tried and tested reliable piece of Anti-Malware that comes in
free and pay versions.
Microsoft Security Essentials – One of the newer
packages on the market that offers very good Malware
recognition.
Spybot Search & Destroy – One of the original
Anti-Malware packages that’s been free since the day it was
launched many years ago, does a good job, and can find nasties
that most other packages miss.
Unhackme – Little heard of but still a good piece
of software, scans on startup before any Malware can load and
attempt to hide or protect itself.
If you find one package
does not fix the problem try another, no piece of software will
offer 100% Malware recognition and removal.
Personally I used
Malwarebytes and scan once a week, I also run Microsoft Security
essentials, even in the space of a week you’d be surprised at
the things they find.
Today I think of
scanning my computer as the equivalent of wiping my shoes after
walking through the park.
Once you have run your
scan and resolved the Safari hijacked problem you then need to
delete any old system restore points as this will probably still
be infected with the Malware, if you ever need to revert back to
one of these you may well find Safari hijacked again.
How to delete your
computers System Restore points
Go to Control Panel – System – System Restore tab
– ensure that Turn off System Restore on all drives is
ticked – Apply – and Yes to Delete all the System
Restore Points – once done Untick to reactivate it.
