Problems Sending Multiple Emails ?

Problems sending multiple emails is an issue that gets mentioned very often, sending to 1 to 10 recipients is never an issue providing the addresses are correct.

When we start to send more than this then this could be perceived or compared to spamming and as such, many ISP’s will not allow bulk emailing to multiple recipients, not only this but sending large quantities of email at once can put a large load on a mail server, so breaking bulk emails into smaller quantities can help this.

But of course we know that it’s possible after all many spam mailers already do this. The purpose of this article Sending Multiple Emails is not to encourage spamming, but for the many people who have legitimate reasons to send mass mailings such as mailing lists.

The first step is to check with your ISP to find out what if and what limits they impose sending bulk mailings.

If you find the limits are too small for your needs, they may be able to change your restrictions, otherwise you’ll either need to change your ISP or setup your own email server.

Setting up your own email server can be a difficult or easy as you need, if you want to go the whole way and setup an exchange server this is going to be very difficult for the average user.

If like many users you want a simple way of sending multiple emails, using your existing email program then you’ll need to install some SMTP server software, there are many other products on the market many of which are free such as SMTP server by Softstack,, these are primarily aimed at people wishing to send regular ezines or news letters, the purpose of this is to bypass your ISP’s mail server, so the emails are sent directly from your computer, rather than being relayed through your ISP, so you have more or less total control over what you are sending.

Another point worth considering is mailing list management

If you are looking at sending multiple emails on a regular basis apart from having your own SMTP server software you might also consider implementing a mailing list solution, this can save literally hours giving more time to invest in the actual content of the email rather than adding or removing names manually.

Emailing list management software starts at around $60 and there are more than a few to choose from, most offer trial versions so you can make sure its right before purchasing.
