Stopping junk mail , how to block and stop
Stopping Junk Mail , spam mail , crap mail whatever you call it, it is now pretty much a part of internet life, this does not mean that it's not frustrating though, but you can never stop all of it completely, but you can stop most of it.
I don’t think I actually know anyone who has actually ever followed up on a junk mail, but I guess it must work or people would never send it.
There are a number of programs on the market for stopping junk mail , but the ones were going to setup are the built in ones for Outlook and Outlook express.
For anyone who’s not sure of the difference between Outlook and Outlook express the differences are Outlook Express comes free with Windows, Outlook comes as part of Microsoft office.
The application differences are , Outlook is more geared to Office networks, it has support for Microsoft Exchange and also includes a calendar built in.
Outlook Express on the other hand is aimed at the home user, it does not have exchange server support, and has no calendar.
When you want to block an email in Outlook express we just need to Right Click in the “ From Box” of the message you wish to block and select block sender.
Stopping junk mail
Ok so now you’ve blocked the sender of that email address, but today the average junk mail sender is a little bit smarter ,
so tomorrow you’ll receive another from them, with a different name for example, you receive a message from annoying@11zxcvbn.com you block this, the next day you get one from annoying1@11zxcvbn.com and so on,
it’s very rare to receive junk email from exactly the same address, because they know you’ll block them.
But if you are still getting repeated junk email from the domain of the address above, which generally happens we can block the domain, for example any email coming from zxcvbn.com will be blocked, to do this,
Get the domain name of the email address, “ to do this right click on the senders email address and select properties,
Now you’ll see a field labelled email address
“ if you look above this you will see Name, when you first receive the message it will appear to have just come from this name, but this is not the email address”
highlight the domain name, the domain name will be everything after the @ , for example mike@microsoft.com , the domain name will be Microsoft.com, once highlighted right click and select copy.
Now close the windows, go to the tools menu and select message rules and blocked senders list. Click “ add “ right click and paste the domain name into here.
Ok well done, you’ve now blocked a domain, in here you will also see any email addresses you may have blocked earlier.
If ever you need to you can remove any emails addresses or blocked domains from here. Stopping junk mail
One thing worth noting
If you receive spam or junk email from any common providers such as MSN or Hotmail and you block the domain, of course any friends you have with an MSN or Hotmail address, will also be blocked.
