The Adsense Pyramid

If you have Google Adsense running on your website or blog there is nothing wrong with trying to maximize the websites earnings, if my website was earning enough I would be able to give up work and then write even more helpful content.

Using the Adsense Pyramid to Maximize Your Website Earnings

Like everyone I’ve tried all manner of Adsense colors, placements, font sizes attempting to earn better Adsense revenue.

After literally years of testing one idea that really has worked for me is what I call the Adsense pyramid.

The problem with Adsense is you not only need to get the highest click through rate possible, but you also need to get the best possible click through to sales rate.

This will hopefully help to keep your earnings per click as high as possible.

One way I have found of doing this is using the Adsense pyramid.

The essence of this is setting up your ads in a kind of pyramid, this involves the following

  • A single ad block at the top of the page + A Google search box
  • Around the middle of the page another single ad block + a Link block
  • At the bottom of the content another single ad block + 2 x Link blocks

By keeping your ads divided in this way it has several benefits..

1) Less ad competition at the top of your page meaning people are more likely to click on one of the top ads, but it will be the ads which should give you the most revenue per click.

2) Even though the page is using a lot of ads it does not appear this way as long as you have enough content, having too many ads at the top of a page may deter many people from even bothering to read your content, plus you have the risk of people clicking on the lower paying ads.

3) Down the middle of the page there will be another Ad block + a Link block within the menu bar

4) At the bottom of the page another Ad block + 2 Link blocks will hopefully catch possible clicks that the upper ads have missed.

The whole point of this Adsense pyramid setup is to offer the ad you really want people to click on first, then going down the page the amount of ads increases to the point of maximum coverage when the article finishes giving it everything we have left in terms of ads to get those clicks.

In terms of colors you can either make ads similar to the look of the webpage getting them to blend in, or contrast with the page making them stand out a little more.

I prefer to make most ads look like they belong to the page and blend in, but not too much or they could get ignored completely as they will get too much competition from any other links.

If using blue I would simply use a slightly more striking blue (just fractionally) more than the other links.

Its work making the text size of the ads slightly bigger than the normal content text as well.

Using banners, yes or no? Most people will advise not using them, but if they are in line with the subject of your content I use them, but only on the middle section as it makes ads look a little different from the text ads which helps with ad blindness, banner ads can also give you higher revenue per click.
