How to Promote Your Website
Looking for ways to promote your
website ? Regardless of whether your promoting an established
site or looking to promote a new website there are some real
basic rules which should be followed to begin with.
Many of us want to
create some revenue from a website, but adding advertising
revenue streams the site too early in its life is usually a
mistake which can easily damage the sites credibility, wait
until the site has been added to search indexes of the major
search engines such as Google. Yahoo and MSN and then make sure
you have around 20 good pages of content.
How can I promote my website ..
To get your website
listed in the major search engines you need to get the word out
that your website has arrived, and unless someone stumbles
across it by accident it will never be found as it will
generally rank very low for many search phrases to begin with.
The easiest way to get around this is to begin a marketing
campaign, to a certain degree it can be harder to get traffic
than actually building the site, but once that traffic starts at
a trickle and builds into a river you will reap the rewards.
To begin to
promote your website and start your traffic flow Setup accounts
with sites such as Squidoo – Blogger – Word Press – Technorati
and write some articles with links pointing back to your site,
this should not take too long before it is picked up by the
major search engines, plus you will also get traffic from the
articles people have read on the sites you use for promoting,
then you have your foot in the door, once you get added to a
search engines listed they generally check your site every few
days to see if you have added any new content which they will
add to there search index,
consider setting up a sitemap
for your website this enables search engines to easily see what
pages you have listed.
The next way is to
promote your website is to join some article directory sites
such as Ezine Articles or Article Dashboard and publish regular
articles to these again adding links to your website, it is
important not to submit exactly the same article you use on your
website or the same one to each article site or Googles
duplicate content filter will pick this up and many articles
will only last for a matter of days before being removed from
the search index.
Reciprocal linking,
basically means you provide a link on your website and the
webmaster of the other site provides a link to your website,
this type of linking used to hold a lot of weight in terms of
search engine ranking, and although not as important now, it
still helps if you have similar/popular sites linking into
yours.
To find sites
to exchange links with there are a couple of choices, you can
manually search for similar sites and send them an email or you
can use one of the many link campaign packages that make the
whole process much easier.
There
are a few basic rules to follow with your campaign, only
exchange reciprocal links with sites that are similar to yours,
and never link to sites which offer nothing but other links and
advertising.
A link to this type of site or link farm as they are known
will only damage your sites reputation.
If you are trying to
promote a new website it can be difficult to persuade website
owners of established sites to exchange links, but do not give
up, if you persevere you will find people who are willing to
exchange links, just remember once your site is established to
help to support one or two newbie sites.
When looking to promote
your website sell your site make it stand out from the crowd,
offer value in your information and remember it has to appeal to
search engines, but more importantly has to offer value to its
visitors who will be your bread and butter.
