How to uninstall IE (Internet Explorer)

It’s not everyone’s favourite browser and yet we have no option when purchasing a new computer, it is however easy to remove if not needed.

Uninstall IE 7

  • From the Start menu select Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
  • Find Internet Explorer 7 and select remove
  • If Internet Explorer 7 cannot be found in the Add or Remove Programs group,
  • Make sure all files and folders are un-hidden

    My Computer > Tools > View tab > look for Hidden files and folders, now select show hidden files and folders

Now run the file spuninst.exe it can be found in your Windows directory/ie7/spuninst

Uninstall IE 6

  • From the Start menu select Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
  • Select Add/Remove Windows Components, un-tick Internet Explorer > Next

If you having issue uninstalling any version of Internet Explorer then it makes sense to reinstall it first, this will then repair any files stopping it from being removed, now try to uninstall again.
