Voice Over IP Basics



VOIP or Voice over IP basics Those who provide voice over IP telephone connection service are called service providers. Many of these offer this convenience free of charge, as far as calling PC to PC are concerned. These providers include Skype, MSN, AOL & Yahoo messenger.


These and many other voice over IP providers also give you the additional facility of being able to place calls from your pc to a land line or even mobile phone, completely free of charge or for very little money. To do this, of course you must first register as a member to their services. Once you choose your package, you can make a call from your PC to a land line based phone, for little or no money

Many of these voice over IP companies give you an unlimited package, which can save you absolutely loads of money as long as you can find an internet connection. Generally you sign up pay a certain fee for your chosen package. Now you can instantly start calling landlines or mobile phones anywhere in the world for free as the call cost is generally included in the price of your subscription.

Paying per call, credit top ups. Another voice over IP package available is the credit type package which allows you to purchase call credits as and when needed. This way, you do not need to pay monthly, you simply add an amount to your account and then use it as you make your phone calls.

Living in Brasil I frequently called the UK for hours at a time and still never used more than $10 per month in call charges, it worked out to less than 1 cent per minute usually.

This is perhaps the biggest benefit of pay per call with voice over IP over general phone calls are the prices. Calls have always been far too high, let alone making long distance calls from hotels which are astronomical.


Other benefits of voice over IP

Besides the benefits listed above, voice over IP has many other advantages.

- With VoIP, you can use more than one phone on a broadband line, this can be extremely cost effective for businesses, just make sure you have a fast connection, the more phones connected the greater bandwidth or faster internet connection needed. - You can route any incoming calls to your voice over IP phone, so you can receive calls from anywhere in the world as long as you have a sufficient internet connection.

- VoIP services are great for call center agents, who can connect to anywhere in the world using voice over IP

- VoIP can offer free voice over IP to voice over IP. - Many VoIP providers offer answer phone capabilities which can be accessed from anywhere. - VoIP also allows you to send text messages, images or even files.
