MSN Messenger Tips

Creating you own custom Web Messenger Emoticons

If you wish to create your own emoticons it’s pretty easy. To begin with find a picture that you think would make a good emoticon.

It’s worth noting though, the images for emoticons are pretty small so if your picture has too much detail it won’t look so hot.

If you wish to create an animated emoticon then you’ll just need to create an animated GIF ,

I’d recommend using something like Animation shop which is part of Paintshop pro , it’s easy to use and enables you to create effects on a single image or string together a whole succession of images so you can get some great effects very easily.

Once you’ve decided on the image you wish to use it will need to be in one of the following formats

BMP , GIF “if animated “, JPG / Jpeg or PNG .

Firstly open up a chat window and now go to the emoticon selection ,

select “ More “ under the emoticons,

select “ Create “ ,

Click on “ Find Image “ and point it at your image. Give it a name and a keyboard shortcut and your done , you should now have a custom web messenger emoticon.

Screen Magnifying

When you have a chat dialogue box open, if you hold down the CTRL key and use the mouse wheel to scroll up you’ll find the chat screen becomes magnified .

Just hold the CTRL key and scroll the wheel the other way to zoom out.

Not everyone wants MSN messenger to auto start itself everytime you switch on your computer,

So if you wish to stop it auto loading on startup “ you can still manually login “

Just Untick any you wish to disable .

The first “ Automatically run messenger when I log on to Windows “ .

The next one Allow automatic sign in when connected to the internet  “ this can be the same as the first one as most people have an always on web connection “ .

Lastly display MSN today when messenger signs in “ this gives you a small MSN news screen “

Who has you added to your contact list ?

If you wish to find out who has you added to their contact list from the Tools menu .

Choose Options , now select Privacy , from here you can see anyone who has you added to their contact list , you can also block and unblock contacts from here.
