This means only advertising products which are inline with the subject or theme of your site.

It never ceases to amaze the number of very good sites that are getting a lot of traffic but advertise products totally unrelated to the subject of the site.
 
Next we have sites that actually compete against themselves, imagine if we have a website selling gardening equipment directly and we add Google Adsense, how much revenue is being lost due to people clicking out of the site and instead of getting a possible sales worth,say £100 we get a click worth 20p, now do the math if our profit on the sale is £35 that means we would need 175 clicks to break even, so how likely would it be to get more than 1 sale per every 175 clicks?

Getting paid per sale is offered by thousands of companies, many of them go through sites such as linkshare or click bank, register with them and you will see literally thousands of companies that you can sell products for. Some of the larger online companies have there own affiliate sales program, these companies include Amazon and eBay, but many more can be found simply by looking for the type of product you wish to sell Google or Yahoo and then look for there affiliate program, you really will be surprised by the amount of companies that offer this.

In my personal experience I have found Google Adsense to be the best way for my website to make money , but affiliate programs such as click bank also provide a nice income.

Speak to any webmaster and you will see that different types of advertising work better on some sites than other, the best advice I can give is do not simply make the whole page one big advert, give value to the page, this way people will return time and time again.

Do not get too caught up with a single revenue stream, try a few and see what works for your website and make the most of it, remember above all your website needs to offer value and not just a sales page otherwise you might get the odd sale of click, but as for site longevity it will forget it.

Having a good content site is a win win win situation – not only will people find it interesting and rewarding, but they are more likely to pass the word around and purchase items and click on your ads.
