This messenger error occurs when it has not been installed properly, or needed DLL files cannot be found or have become corrupt.

To rectify this the DLL’s need to be re-registered, to do this, from the Run Menu type the following one at a time.

regsvr32 Wintrust.dll

Error 80004005
Caused by friendly names being too long, either shorten the names or install the latest version of MSN where this problem has been fixed.

Other connection issues
Of course MSN being a web based application requires an internet connection, a basic dial-up connection is fine for simple chatting, but for voice and video conversations ideally a broadband connection of 512k or above is recommended.

If your Windows messenger errors could be firewall based checkour our other Windows Live Messenger Errors page, where we cover more on connection issues such as firewalls and which port MSN requires.
