Increase WiFi Range The Wireless WiFi Antenna

New Page 1

Design
The average Wireless WiFI antenna is omni directional, this means that the WiFi antenna gives the same range from 360% around the antenna for example

Other Types
Other WiFi antenna types include directional narrow beam and directional wide beam.
Narrow beam antennas offer greater distance or range, but with far narrower directional coverage than an omni directional type of WiFi antenna.

Increasing Range
Just about all laptops today come with built in WiFi cards, this is also means the wireless WiFi antenna is also built in to a certain degree, regardless of whether it is a mini-pci internal WiFi card, a USB or PCMCIA type. Although we can increase range slightly by tuning the WiFi cards settings such as setting to no power saving or maximum power, these changes will only allow marginal range increases. To be able to increase the range significantly we need to be able to install a better aerial with some form of range booster unit which can help to increase WiFi range by more than 50%.

Range Statistics
Did you know everything that surrounds your WiFi network attributes to loss or range, this includes microwaves, walls, even under or over floor metal piping, which in turn leads to lower speeds and performance, even to the point of preventing connections or allocation of IP addressing.
It is generally known that older style buildings have thicker denser walls that will cause more WiFi problems than newer constructions

Range increasing tips
Add a WiFi antenna booster to your router or WiFi device, it's not possible on your device, why not add a WiFi shroud such as the Tritium Flatenna.
Adding WiFi repeaters can be a false economy due to the single unit sending and receiving network packets from both router and nodes, this in turn can actually half network performance.
