Your System has Recovered From a Serious Error – Tips & Fixes

When your computer gets the Windows error your system has recovered from a serious error don’t panic, Windows is one of the biggest drama queens of recent times and much of the time the error is actually something relatively minor.

Personally I have never ever had to rebuild a computer due to one of these so called serious errors, the worst I think that has ever happened was losing changes to a Word document, which I can live with.

If you get the message your system has recovered from a serious error and it happens just once it can usually be ignored, there are so many factors involved in getting an application to run on top of an operating system, in conjunction with x amount of other applications something will go wrong every so often.

If you get the error your system has recovered from a serious error on a regular basis this is different, much of the time this is caused by a change, be it an application install or upgrade in most cases.

The simplest fix is to revert back to the last time the computer worked properly using Windows built in system restore, as this will only take around 5 minutes to complete.

To be on the safe side it’s advisable to also run a thorough 5 point CHKDSK, as opposed to the standard 3 point type, this can take between 20 minutes and an hour depending on disk speed, and if any errors are encountered and need to be repaired.

To run a thorough CHKDSK from the start menu/button run CMD, if using Windows 7 or Vista you will need to run it as Administrator (you just need to right click on it to do this) then you will get the black DOS shell screen, now type CHKDSK C: /R you will be advised that you cannot run any disk checking currently as the volume is locked or in use, it will prompt if you would like to run this the next time the computer is restarted, select Y to this and reboot your computer and allow it to run the CHKDSK.

If the error message your system has recovered from a serious error still persists I would look in the direction of a virus or other malware, my favorite free products for removing this is Microsoft Security Essentials or the less known ESET security scanner. (If you already have good antivirus in place consider running ESET as it does not require an installation like Microsoft SE)
